What BookHost is
BookHost is hosted BookStack for teams that want useful documentation without operating the application themselves. BookStack organizes knowledge into books, optional chapters and pages; BookHost adds a workspace dashboard and a reviewed document intake workflow.
Two ways to build your knowledge base
Write and maintain pages directly in your own BookStack workspace, or submit an existing document through Document intake. Intake prepares a suggested page for a person to review. An AI suggestion is a draft, not an approved source of truth.

Keep ownership clear
Assign an owner to each important page and review it when the underlying process changes. A searchable wiki is useful only when people know which instructions are current. This demo contains fictional examples; it is not a place to upload your team's documents.

1. Choose a source
In your BookHost dashboard, open Document intake and select the destination book. Upload a supported PDF, DOCX, Markdown or text document. Use a document you are authorized to process and remove unnecessary personal or confidential information first.
2. Inspect the proposal
Wait for the suggested title and page content. Read the original alongside the proposal. Check names, dates, numbers and instructions carefully: a fluent summary can omit a condition or state something the source never said.
3. Make it useful
Give the page a title a teammate would search for. Keep the steps in order, explain unfamiliar terms and remove repetition. Preserve important exceptions. If the source is ambiguous, ask its owner rather than filling the gap with a guess.
4. Ask an authorized reviewer to approve
A workspace owner or admin reviews the proposal before publication. Confirm the destination book's permissions as well as the text. Approval publishes a BookStack page; uploading alone does not publish it.
5. Verify the published page
Open the resulting page, check formatting and links, and assign a content owner. Keep the source and review context according to your team's retention policy. If the job fails, inspect its status before resubmitting to avoid duplicate pages.
Demo boundary: this public workspace is read-only. Try intake in your own workspace. Do not assume an email submission address is available unless your dashboard explicitly provides one.
Backups and restore
BookHost's hosting operations include encrypted daily backups of the BookStack database and application files. A useful backup must be restorable; an archive existing on disk is not sufficient evidence.
What is checked
The operator's restore test starts an isolated copy, restores the database and files, boots BookStack and compares page counts, book counts and book titles with the snapshot. The temporary copy has no public route and is removed after the test.
What a restore means for your team
Restoring a snapshot returns the workspace to that snapshot's state. Changes made afterward may need to be recovered separately. Before requesting a restore, identify the affected workspace, the approximate time of the problem and the content you need. Avoid making unrelated edits while the recovery approach is being agreed.
What these checks do not promise
A count comparison does not prove that every attachment renders correctly or that a particular recovery deadline can be met. Ask the operator about the latest successful backup, retention, offsite coverage and the expected recovery window for your workspace. This demo is not a service-level agreement.

Permissions and roles
BookStack uses roles to decide what a user can see and change. Books, chapters and pages can also have content-specific permissions. A user's effective access depends on both, so test with a representative account after changing permissions.
A practical starting point
- Administrator: manages settings, users and permissions. Give this role only to people who need it.
- Editor: writes and maintains content in the areas assigned to them.
- Viewer: reads the knowledge needed for their work.
- Public: represents visitors who are not signed in when public viewing is enabled.
This demo's rules
All non-admin roles in this demo have reading and export permissions only. Public viewing is enabled and registration is disabled. Visitors cannot create pages, edit this guide or use document intake to publish here. Your private workspace needs its own access decisions; these demo settings are not a recommendation to publish internal knowledge.
Before making a book public
Review every page for employee details, customer data, credentials and private links. Check child pages and attachments as well as the book description. Open the book in a signed-out browser to verify the result.
Review access regularly
Remove access when a teammate leaves or changes responsibility. Avoid shared administrator accounts. When a page unexpectedly disappears for a user, investigate role membership and inherited permissions before granting broad access.

FAQ
Can I edit this demo?
No. The public demo is read-only, including for its non-admin roles. Start your own workspace from bookhost.co to write pages and explore your team's workflow.
Do I need a card for the trial?
The trial lasts 14 days and starts without a payment card. The Team plan is EUR 39 per month and can be cancelled monthly. Confirm the current terms in the dashboard before subscribing.
Does AI publish documents automatically?
No. Document intake creates a proposal. An authorized person reviews it before publication. Always compare the proposal with the source, especially for numbers, exceptions and instructions with operational consequences.
Can I send documents by email?
Use the upload workflow shown in your dashboard. Only use email intake if your workspace explicitly provides a submission address and instructions; this guide does not advertise a working public email inbox.
Can I bring an existing BookStack installation?
Discuss migration with the operator before starting. Version compatibility, attachments, user accounts and URLs need a migration plan. Do not assume a page export is a complete installation backup.
Can I take my content with me?
BookStack offers exports for content you have permission to access. For a complete workspace migration or database backup, agree the scope and delivery process with the operator.
Where should sensitive information go?
Use a private workspace with deliberately assigned permissions. Never put passwords in wiki pages. This public demo contains only fictional examples and product explanations.
